Anthony Davis was all set to get his signature No. 23 passed on from no one other than LeBron James himself, yet a timing issue prevented him from inheriting the number, now forced to suit up with jersey No. 3 — one that belonged to a former longtime Los Angeles Lakers cog, Devean George.

George, a perennial role player for the Lakers during his 11 years in the league, noted Davis doesn't need his permission to wear his number or any other number he chooses.

“I am not half the player AD is. He can take my number,” George told TMZ Sports. “He can have No. 3. He can have whatever number he wants.”

George never had his number in consideration for retirement, as a matter of fact, the utility man only started in 108 of his 630 NBA games, never averaging over eight points per game in his entire pro career.

However, Davis is only expected to wear No. 3 for this upcoming 2019-20 season and change to his old No. 23 after the official request is processed by the league office.

The Brow is reportedly planning to wear No. 23 in practice throughout this upcoming season, but once the change happens permanently in purple-and-gold, James will likely change to his old No. 6, which he wore for four seasons with the Miami Heat.
