Free-agent guard Dion Waiters is set to work out with the Los Angeles Lakers on March 2, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Waiters has been in the rumor mill for the past few months as the Lakers' next target in an effort to add depth to their line up. Such rumors were turned into a reality when the team waived Troy Daniels on Sunday. Now, the 28-year-old Waiters has a chance to make the team if he does well in the workouts.

Waiters was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He was actually represented by Rob Pelinka who's now the general manager of the Lakers. Waiters has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Miami Heat. He holds averages of 13.2 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 41.2 percent from the field, and 34.8 percent from deep.

Several off-court issues this season marred Waiters' career. He was suspended by the Heat multiple times this season due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” This may still be a concern moving forward but Pelinka and the organization seem to be willing to take their chances on Waiters.

While the Lakers did not seal any deal at the February trade deadline, they have remained active in beefing up their roster in preparation for the playoffs.

Their most recent acquisition is veteran forward Markieff Morris — a big body who has a confident stroke from deep. And in his first few games as a Laker, Morris has been nothing but productive. In their win over the New Orleans Pelicans, Morris dropped 10 points (4-of-8 from the field, 2-of-4 from deep) in just 15 minutes of action.
