While Los Angeles Lakers fans heaped praise on the franchise for securing Anthony Davis for the next five years, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green gave a shout out to his agent Rich Paul, who he believes is the real GOAT.

Via Twitter, Green retweeted an old clip of Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul sharing his mindset on building wealth and helping other people in the process. While Davis definitely deserved his maximum deal, one cannot discount how instrumental Paul was in securing the contract.

Paul, a childhood friend of Lakers star LeBron James, founded Klutch Sports Group in 2012. He has since amassed a slew of mid to top-tier players into his agency. Apart from James, Davis, and Green, Paul also represents Montrezl Harrell, Lonzo Ball, John Wall, Ben Simmons, Trae Young, Eric Bledsoe, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, among others.

Davis' latest contract coupled with James' two-year extension is the latest win for Paul and his agency. But not too long ago, Klutch Sports Group was under fire by the NCAA.

In 2019, NCAA released a set of criteria for agents who wish to represent student-athletes in the NBA Draft. In what has been called the “Rich Paul Rule,” an agent must have a Bachelor's Degree, has been certified by the NBAPA for the last three years, passes an in-person exam administered at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis.

Paul wrote a lengthy essay slamming the proposal, noting that that “requiring a four-year degree accomplishes only one thing — systematically excluding those who come from a world where college is unrealistic.” Coupled with Paul's essay and an ample amount of criticism, the NCAA quickly amended the criteria.
