Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard explained the trials and tribulations this NBA season has brought both himself and the team.

Howard explained why this past year has been one of the most difficult of his life, but also noted he has stood resolute in finishing strong:

“This year has been one of the craziest years that I’ve ever experienced in life,” Dwight Howard said, via Shams Charania of The Athletic. “It’s been good, it’s been bad, it’s been ugly, it’s been torture. It’s been every kind of emotion that you could possibly deal with. The good thing about it is throughout everything that has happened, not once have I ever thought about giving up or quitting. We’re almost at the finish line. It’s been awesome to go through this journey. Life is a crazy journey. Through it all, for me, instead of complaining and sulking in defeat, just stay strong and true to yourself.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year has been on something of a redemption tour after the Lakers took a chance on him in the offseason.

Dwight Howard was a vital part of L.A.'s frontcourt depth, averaging 14.3 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per 36 minutes during the regular season. He has played with energy and added quite a bit to the Lakers' winning culture.

But Howard has also dealt with tragedy. He and the rest of the Lakers mourned the loss of franchise icon, Kobe Bryant, in January. Just a few months later, Howard was stunned by the death of Melissa Rios, the mother of his 6-year-old son, David.

This year has been especially trying for Howard, but he is determined to try and help the Lakers reach the finish line and hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
