If we're counting accolades, the Los Angeles Lakers have a completely stacked roster with multiple future Hall of Famers. With their addition of an 8-time All-Star, they're setting up for a huge bounce back season. But that's not Russell Westbrook or Carmelo Anthony, that's Dwight Howard.

Howard has fallen very far off his once lofty perch atop the NBA. But the Lakers big man knows trying to be the biggest star is no longer what's necessary at this point in his career.

Via Austin Green of Silver Screen and Roll:

“I just think it’s about sacrifice,” Howard said of his Lakers role. “What are you willing to give up to get the trophy?… My first year [back] here, it was for me, you’ve got to realize, ‘Dwight, just do what they ask you to do, no matter how hard it may be at times.’ Everybody wants to score. Everybody wants to be the person to make the front page of the newspaper.”

“At the end of the day, holding up that trophy and celebrating with your family and the city and all the people that you love, it just means so much more,” Howard said.

Well said, Dwight. That mantra is exactly what the Lakers need going into a season featuring two huge stars in Russ and Melo who have to take a backseat to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Hopefully the team can figure out the pecking order as the season rolls around.
