Dwight Howard made history on Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Indiana Pacers at the Crypto.com Arena. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner marked a historic milestone after grabbing his 14,464th career rebound.

The Lakers center has just entered the Top 10 list of all-time rebounds, tying Hall of Fame big man Nate Thurmond (h/t Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet):

Howard actually tied the record in the third quarter of Wednesday's bout and many expected him to overtake Thurmond on the evening. Unfortunately, it just wasn't to be.

Howard should officially earn his spot in the Top 10 list when the Lakers take on the Magic on Friday. Perhaps a bit of destiny came into play here, considering how Friday's match will take place in Orlando. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Howard, who spent the first eight seasons of his decorated career with the Magic franchise. I guess it's only fitting that he makes history in his old stomping ground. For what it's worth, the No. 9 spot on the all-time rebounding list belongs to Kevin Garnett with 14,662 career boards.

Howard played just 13 minutes on Wednesday as the Lakers suffered a 111-104 loss against Indiana. The eight-time All-Star finished with five points, seven boards, and two blocks.
