Memphis Grizzlies center Dwight Howard is unlikely to play a single game for the franchise, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Woj reported earlier Tuesday that Howard, Joakim Noah, and Marreese Speights will be worked out by the Los Angeles Lakers. Howard is the only one of the three that is under contract, but the Grizzlies have no intention of bringing him into the regular season and have given him permission to explore other opportunities.

Howard still has $5.6 million left in the last year of his contract, which could be useful as a trade asset, or he could work out a contract buyout with the franchise — expected to find a resolution sooner than later.

If a buyout is agreed upon, Howard would make $2.6 million under the veteran's minimum with the Lakers. The 33-year-old missed 73 games last season with multiple injuries, which prompted the Washington Wizards to quickly trade him this offseason.

While the Grizzlies could work out a feasible agreement to release Howard from his contract obligations, they will have a harder time doing the same with veteran Andre Iguodala, who is older than Howard and still owed $17 million for this 2019-20 season.

Memphis has been hellbent in getting a first-round pick in exchange for Iguodala in any trade, and while they could package these two veterans together in a trade, most teams have frozen assets and are unable or unwilling to make a deal.

Howard is just one of potentially four centers the Lakers will look at, including Polish big man Marcin Gortat along with the aforementioned.
