Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has earned four MVP trophies over the course of his 16-year career in the NBA. A fine achievement, to be sure. However, there are some, including longtime friend Dwyane Wade, who feel The King should have been given a few more.

“He could’ve been MVP so many times,” Wade told Sam Amick of The Athletic in a recent interview. “It’s like MJ (Michael Jordan), right? There were so many years where MJ was the greatest player in the game, but they went with somebody else because of whatever the case may be.

“I know he would love (another one),” Wade added. “I mean, he prepares for it every year. He prepares to be the best player in the game every year, and unfortunately he hasn’t gotten the award every year, but the preparation that he puts in to be the best player in the game — that’s his goal. So I think he has a great shot if he can keep this team going that way. I think (if the Lakers finish) somewhere in the top three, he has a great shot.”

As Wade noted, James is indeed one of the most well-prepared athletes of all time. When most players are lounging in the offseason, James is in a gym somewhere getting up shots. His stringent workout routine has paid off, though, as he's showing no signs of regression. In fact, it's just the opposite.

James has made 27 appearances with the Lakers this season (all starts), racking up averages of 28.3 points on 52.1 percent shooting from the field (37.1 percent from beyond the arc), 7.7 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.3 steals and just under one block (0.8) in 34.9 minutes per outing.

To be fair, D-Wade is probably right. LeBron James deserved to be named MVP in some of the years he wasn't. Barring any setbacks, he'll have a shot at claiming another this season.
