ESPN has come out with the latest edition of their own comprehensive ranking of the stars in the NBA today. This might not be what LeBron James fans want to hear right now, but as it turns out, ESPN has ranked the Los Angeles Lakers superstar as the third-best player in the league today. This comes after Sports Illustrated also ranked him No. 3.

Interestingly, the ESPN article notes that this is the first time in the nine-year history of this ranking that James is not the No. 1 player on the list. The write-up also puts forth a very valid and intriguing query about LeBron's longevity and how much gas he has left in the tank. The three-time NBA champ will be turning 35 this season, and Father Time will be catching up with him soon, so perhaps this had an effect on his drop in the rankings.

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden is ranked one spot behind LeBron at No. 4, while LeBron's new teammate, Anthony Davis, is at No. 5.

The list stopped at LeBron, with the top two players set to be revealed in a follow-up article, which will be published on Friday. After a quick look at the other guys in the top 10, it's pretty easy to tell who these guys are going to be. The only noteworthy stars missing on the list are reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and last season's Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.

With what both guys did last season for their respective sides, it's hard to argue against either of them being at the very apex of ESPN's rankings. The only question that remains is who's going to end up on top, and who's going to play second fiddle.
