The most remarkable achievement of LeBron James's illustrious career is not the stats, highlights, titles, or accolades: it's the longevity. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar will turn 37 years old during the 2021-22 NBA season — his 19th, tying him with Kobe Bryant — and remains at the top of his game when healthy.

LeBron has been a mainstay atop basketball and culture for multiple generations of hoops fans and gamers. In fact, as the First Look screens from NBA 2K22 dropped on Tuesday, a Twitter user perfectly encapsulated just how long the King has been lording over the NBA universe, comparing a current image of digitized LeBron with how James was depicted as a rookie with the Cleveland Cavaliers circa 2003.

Needless to say: video game graphics have come a long way.

Feel old?

Across 18 seasons for the Lakers, Cavs, and Miami Heat, James has made 10 NBA Finals, won four titles, and earned 17 All-Star nods. He's played fewer than 70 games in a season only five times, and two of those came in shortened seasons (three have come with the Lakers).

LeBron is third on the league's all-time scoring list, eighth on the assists list, and has scored more points than anybody in postseason history.

It doesn't sound like the 36-year old will be hanging up the Nikes anytime soon. Last week, during an appearance on the “Smartless” podcast, James, whose contract runs through 2022-23, casually revealed his intentions to remain with the Lakers for the rest of his career, however long that goes.

“I truly hope that I can finish my career with the Lakers,” LeBron said. “And how many years that is — if it’s four, five, six, whatever, seven — I hope that I can continue to play the game. I love being in L.A., my family loves being in L.A.”
