Can 2017 get any more 2017 before it ends? It could, actually, especially if Kobe Bryant accepted the challenge from Floyd Mayweather. Perhaps missing the attention he used to get before he hung up his gloves, Mayweather issued a challenge to Bryant – a game of one-on-one basketball for $1 million.

Earlier today, Bryant posted a video on Instagram, showing parts of how the animation version of his “Dear Basketball” letter was made, while also expressing gratitude to Disney animator Glenn Keane for making it happen. Enter Mayweather, who obviously didn’t care about the subject of Bryant’s post because the former five-division boxing champ completely went off tangent in his reply.

Mayweather was a great boxer, arguably the best the sweet science has ever seen. But come on, Tyronn Lue could beat him on any basketball court. Then again, we know Mayweather is only after attention here. Plus it’s obvious he’s got nothing else good to do with his fortune.

We also know that Mayweather is a big fan of basketball, even dreaming of buying an NBA franchise one day, but as far as his hardcourt skills go, he’d be lucky to get three straight dribbles against the Black Mamba. When it comes to basketball, Mayweather is a strawweight going up against a heavyweight in Bryant.

Also, Dr. James Naismith didn’t invent basketball for this.
