The Los Angeles Lakers offered Anthony Davis a four-year, $146 million max contract extension on Tuesday, but they were informed he will be bypassing an in-season extension in favor of entering unrestricted free agency in July, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Davis can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends once he declines his 2020-21 player option with the Lakers. No one within league circles anticipates Davis leaving the Lakers after one season, via Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report:

“After hiring Rich Paul [of Klutch Sports], teaming up with LeBron [James] and forcing his way to the Lakers, he's not going to go anywhere else [in July],” a former NBA executive said.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis has been a monster on both ends of the court. He’s averaging 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 29.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference and a good shot at winning the title with Davis and LeBron James leading the way. Davis has only won one playoff series in his career. It's one of the main reasons he requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league and he finally has a chance to showcase his skills on the NBA's brightest stage.
