Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel says he “couldn't be happier” with the chemistry he and his assistant coaches have built this offseason.

The Lakers hired Jason Kidd, Lionel Hollins and Phil Handy as assistant coaches to Vogel's staff. Kidd, Hollins and Handy are the big names under Vogel.

“I couldn’t be happier with how the coaching staff chemistry has begun,” Vogel told Mike Trudell of Lakers.com. “You never know how personalities are going to mix. It’s the same thing we said with the players. It’s six new guys coming together, and you have to get everybody up to speed with what you’ve done and create roles that everybody feels good about, because that’s when they’re going to be at their best.

“Hopefully I’ve done a good job with creating that environment for our guys … and also create an environment where we can get to know each other, spend time with each other, dine together and hopefully learn to love and respect each other and it seems to be off to a great start.”

Hollins has coached the Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets. He has an overall regular season record of 262-272 and a postseason mark of 20-21.

Kidd has a close relationship with Lakers superstar LeBron James already. Kidd is probably going to mesh well with James and Rajon Rondo the best. Rondo, Kidd and James are three of the smartest basketball minds in NBA history. The Lakers are lucky to have those guys in Vogel’s presence.

Handy and LeBron know each other very well from their days on the Cleveland Cavaliers together. Overall, the Lakers did a good job of getting astute basketball minds on the team.
