Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel sure is glad to have Danny Green on his team. After all, Green recently admitted that he was close to signing with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.

Green actually helped sink the Mavs on Friday night when he buried a game-tying triple to send the game into overtime, where the Lakers earned a big road win. However, Vogel insists that Green is far more than merely a “shooter”

It is only natural that Vogel should point to Green's defense. The former Indiana Pacers head coach led one of the best defenses in the league earlier in the decade, and his teams pride themselves on defensive identities.

That might not be the case this year, but Green nonetheless brings a vital presence as a stingy perimeter defender. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2017, and he can fill the void left behind by Lonzo Ball who was L.A.'s best defender.

Not to mention, Green brings plenty of championship pedigree to the table.

He won his second NBA title last season with the Raptors, and he has played for one of the most legendary coaches in NBA history in Gregg Popovich. Green knows exactly what it takes to get to the mountaintop, and he serves as yet another veteran leader to help the Lakers navigate a tricky Western Conference.

Green has gotten off to an excellent start this season. He is averaging 12.8 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
