DeAndre Jordan may have been able to leverage his way into a starting role with the Brooklyn Nets. With the Los Angeles Lakers, though, there will be days Jordan won't even be able to get on the court. Head coach Frank Vogel detailed in an news presser that all of the new Laker players have been told about their roles, including Jordan. This was in response to a question about the former Nets center having to deal with inconsistent playing time.

“Everybody on this team knows coming into this group that whatever needs to happen for our team to win a championship, they have to be bought into that. That's the minimum requirement for playing for the L.A. Lakers. And sometimes that does mean not playing. Everybody understands that … DJ has been nothing but a first-class attitude for everything that we're trying to do and I think he's on board with everybody else that whatever the team needs, that's what they'll be on board with.”

It was reported last season that Jordan bristled at the idea of playing behind budding center Jarrett Allen. When Kenny Atkinson was fired, Jordan was able to go back to his preferred starting role. Vogel, though, seems to have made it clear to the former All-Star that if he wants to contend, he'll have to accept that not playing is sometimes best for the team.

The Lakers have Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard at their disposal. With AD showing a willingness to play the 5 more often, there will certainly be games when one of Howard or Jordan won't see the court at all. There's also the fact that with Russell Westbrook and LeBron James in the mix, the Lakers are in dire need of outside shooting, something neither Howard or Jordan can provide.

It's up to DeAndre Jordan to prove to Frank Vogel that he can suck it up and take one for the team sometimes. After all, that's the easiest path to a championship for him and the Lakers.
