This is a big step for the Lakers. When they were searching for a head coach this offseason, they needed to find someone that would garner respect from James while bringing the team together.

James has had drama with his head coaches in the past. In fact, he has a reputation of clashing with whoever takes the coaching helm. It was well documented in Cleveland that he and former coach David Blatt never meshed. Blatt ended up getting fired in the middle of the 2015-16 season.

Luke Walton also struggled to form a good relationship with James. While the two never had a public falling out, there was never a sense of unity between the star and head coach. Walton would be fired after coaching James for one season.

Now, Vogel gets his crack at one of the best to ever play the game. If what he said is true, it seems like the two are off to a good start. If they can keep the relationship positive, it gets the team just this much closer to its ultimate goal.
