Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was asked about how the organization intends to celebrate the birthday of late, great Lakers legend Kobe Bryant on Sunday.

Vogel refused to provide any details about their plans, but admitted that they expect it to be “emotional,” according to Mark Medina of USA TODAY Sports.

Bryant, who passed in January in a tragic helicopter crash, would have been 42 years old on Sunday, Aug. 23. He is considered by many to be the greatest player in franchise history, which is why it is only fitting that the Lakers honor him on his birthday.

For their part, the squad commemorated Kobe's birthday by winning on Saturday. Los Angeles logged a crucial Game 3 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers, 116-108, which now put them up in this first-round series, 2-1. After losing Game 1, there was a lot of noise surrounding the Lakers' hopes to win a title this season. Most of that doubt was quashed following two convincing victories against a formidable Portland side.

Now up in the series, the Lakers have regained their advantage. In the process, they were able to reestablish themselves as legitimate contenders for the championship — at least for those who started to doubt their title credentials. For the record, the last time the Lakers won the title was in 2010. For those who may have forgotten, the man at the helm at that time was none other than Kobe Bryant himself.

The Lakers will honor Kobe by wearing their Black Mamba alternate jerseys for Game 4 on Monday.
