There have been some recent comparisons about the 2003 Los Angeles Lakers and their current team. That Lakers team finished the season at 56-26 and also won the Western Conference. They had some incredible talent on their roster as they had Kobe Bryant, Horace Grant, Karl Malone, Shaquille O'Neal, Gary Payton, amongst many other players.

Former Lakers player Gary Payton had a recent interview and talked about how this Lakers team is not the same as the one that he was on in the 2003-2004 season,

“I don’t think this Laker team is nothing like our team in 2003 at all. I think we had players that knew their role, and I don’t think Russell Westbrook is playing the way he should be playing.”

There could be a bit of a comparison because some of the Lakers players were in the later playing days of their careers just like many of the current players are. When looking at the 2003-2004 roster, there is a bunch of talent on that team as there are certainly at least five to seven guys who made a huge impact and helped that Lakers team succeed as much as they did.

His Russell Westbrook comment is definitely a bit concerning for Lakers fans, but he has started to play a bit better as of late and it certainly has helped the team.

The Lakers do have a lot of star power including arguably the best player of all time in LeBron James. Their title hopes will always remain just because he is out there on the court.
