The Los Angeles Lakers lost Game 1 to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs, and some pundits began thinking that LeBron James and Anthony Davis were in danger of getting upset by Damian Lillard and Co.

However, the Lakers bounced back and won four straight games to win the series behind the monster performances of James and Davis. The Blazers had to play Game 5 without Lillard, who hurt his knee and left the bubble after the Game 4 loss.

During an interview with Michael Pina of GQ, Lakers veteran Jared Dudley opened up about what the team's mood was after shockingly losing Game 1 to Portland:

Pina: “What was the mood of the team when the Lakers went down 0-1 against the Blazers? Any concerns at all?”

Dudley: “No, because if you saw what happened we had so many wide open shots that we missed. It wasn’t like they had good defense. We were wide open. We shot bad from the field, three-point line, and free-throw line. They shot a crazy amount of free throws and we still had a chance to win. That’s not happening four times. We’re not shooting that bad again. Plus, their depth—their minutes were so high.

“For us it was, let’s just take away the easy threes, the fouls off three pointers, and make these role players have to make shots, and they’re not gonna make enough twos to beat us. And that’s what ended up happening. So there was no panic. It was about being more disciplined with what we had to do. Everyone was cool, calm, collected. Nobody was losing sleep. We knew what had to be done.”

After the Game 1 loss, the Lakers basically blew out the Blazers in Games 2-5. James has never lost in the first round of the playoffs, so even though the Lakers lost Game 1, most L.A. fans were confident James and Davis would get things going.

The Lakers will face the Houston Rockets or Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. The Rockets and Thunder will play Game 7 of their series on Wednesday.
