NBA journeyman Iman Shumpert gave one of the best Kobe Bryant story ever, recalling the time he guarded the Los Angeles Lakers legend when he was still with the New York Knicks.

Appearing on HOT97's “Ebro in the Morning,” Shumpert told co-host Peter Rosenberg about the time he felt accomplished guarding the late Bryant through three quarters of play — even mentally giving himself a pat on the back for a job well done, or so he thought.

As Shumpert detailed it, Bryant took over in the fourth quarter for the Lakers, hitting difficult shot after difficult shot, banking it off the glass, and making Shumpert's job to defend the five-time NBA champion all that more tough.

What made the relationship and tributes of NBA players to Bryant so memorable was the real connection they had in going from watching the former teenage NBA prospect develop into a ruthless competitor on the court for the Lakers to playing against Kobe in their respective careers.

Today's players range from veterans who played against Kobe Bryant to younger players who came into the NBA after he retired from the Lakers but grew up watching the championship-caliber shooting guard.

Kobe may have perished, but his legacy and the incredible stories he made during his NBA career will forever be remembered.
