Los Angeles Lakers guard Isaiah Thomas is not a big fan of the NBA Draft Combine. Thomas thinks that the annual event that allows prospects to showcase their potential and acumen in basketball through a battery of drills and interviews while scouts, general managers, and coaches watch is a pointless exercise which does not really do a good job of predicting which player will have the most success in the NBA.

It’s hard to argue against Thomas’ point of view, considering that his excellent performance in the 2011 NBA Draft Combine did not result in a team drafting him before the Sacramento Kings used the very last pick in that year’s draft to select Thomas out of Washington.

Being selected last in 2011 put a chip on Thomas’ shoulder, and he used that resentment to fuel his play on the court. Thomas eventually became one of the only six players from that draft class to be named into at least one All-Star team. In addition, Isaiah Thomas also became part of last year’s All-NBA Second Team after playing his best season to date while wearing Boston Celtics colors.

Here are some of the players drafted ahead of Thomas whose names would probably make plenty of general managers cringe: Derrick Williams, Jan Vesely, Bismack Biyombo, Andrew Goudelock, Lavoy Allen, and DeAndre Liggins.

Thomas is set to become a free agent this coming summer. While his health and letdown 2017-18 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lakers could prevent him from getting the super-sized contract he longs for, the next deal he’ll ink will very much likely surpass any amount people had in mind when he was selected 60th overall in 2011.
