The first generous gesture by Quinn Cook's newest teammate on the Los Angeles Lakers was profound: Cook was gifted the No. 2 Laker jersey by Jared Dudley.

Dudley wrote on Twitter on Monday that he plan on wearing the deuce next season as he joins the Lakers after signing a one-year, veteran's minimum contract this offseason with the title-contending hopefuls.

Quinn Cook, a former Golden State Warriors member who also joined the Lakers this offseason, replied to his new teammate, telling him he was going to pick the same number, apparently as a way to remember his father.

Jared Dudley responded to Cook, telling him he could have it.

Cook extended his thanks to the 34-year-old forward, calling the vet the “realest” and exclaiming that next season is going to be “a fun year!”.

Cook, 26, and Dudley are two of the many acquisitions made by the Lakers during their busy summer.

First, LA traded for All-Star power forward Anthony Davis to pair with fellow Klutch Sports client LeBron James, costing the Lakers Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, and multiple first-rounders.

Then, the Lakers made a splurge in free agency—signing big man DeMarcus Cousins (who played with Davis in New Orleans), shooting guard Danny Green, Dudley, and Cook, and re-signing center JaVale McGee and guards Rajon Rondo, Alex Caruso, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Due to a regulation prohibiting James from changing his number past a previous deadline, the plan to gift No. 23 to Davis was foiled by the NBA and the garment industry. “The Brow” instead will don No. 3 next season and, should he re-sign with the purple and gold franchise in 2020, LeBron will once again wear No. 6 then.
