It appears Los Angeles Lakers center JaVale McGee was not able to savor his big performance on Sunday against the Detroit Pistons.

Apparently, as McGee said, he was given a drug test after the game. For what it's worth, the big man finished with nine points and six blocked shots in 21 minutes of play to help the team come out with a 106-99 victory.

McGee was part of the Lakers' trio with Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard that combined for 19 blocks in the game. The team finished with 20 blocks, becoming the ninth team in NBA history to record at least 20 rejections and the first to do so since 2001.

While some might think that McGee is joking, it is not surprising to see the NBA take such measure after a surprising performance from a player. Recently, Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter also underwent a “random” drug testing after registering a career-high six blocks in their win over the Charlotte Hornets.

The league appears to be observing its players' activities on social media as well, with Philadelphia 76ers swingman Josh Richardson even getting the “drug test” treatment after an innocent Family Guy-related tweet.

JaVale McGee will have to put up with the NBA on this one since it is not the first time it happened. Moreover, it's clear the league has been strict with its anti-drug policy, as proven by the suspensions handed out to the likes of John Collins, Deandre Ayton and Wilson Chandler earlier in the season for violating the league's policy.

After Sunday's win, the Lakers are now on a five-game winning streak and boast a 29-7 record in the West — four and half games ahead of the second-seeded Denver Nuggets. Mcgee, for his part, is averaging 6.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the the Purple and Gold franchise this 2019-20 campaign.
