Despite what others may say about the Los Angeles Lakers’ new band of recruits, JaVale McGee believes that he, along with other Lakers newcomers, have come to Hollywood to put on a show.

Light-heartedly labelled by the internet as “The Meme Team,” the quartet of McGee, Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, and Michael Beasley have been labelled as such after their on-court antics have — unintentionally, more often than not — become the inspiration of hundreds of online memes.

In a recent interview with Sam Alipour of ESPN, McGee showed how much of a sport he is by not only acknowledging the comical tag, but even exuded pride in being part of the unconventional group.

“Q: What happens when you put Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley and JaVale on a roster?

A: The Meme Team.”

When asked about his opinion on the rationale behind the new-found alliance, McGee agreed that one of the reasons why The Meme Team came to be was for the sole purpose of defeating the Golden State Warriors.

“Q: This roster was designed in part as an answer to Golden State. They wanted guys who can create around LeBron and get under players’ skin. You know the Dubs. Will that help?

A: Definitely. If you look at all the guys we signed, they don’t care about anything other than getting wins. It’s definitely gonna be a show, but these guys are workers, grinders, and there’s gonna be some real fire lit under our asses out there.”

McGee makes an excellent point here. Not only is this a collection of Twitterverse superstars, but as a unit, The Meme Team could potentially possess the tools the Lakers need to balance our their otherwise young, and inexperienced roster. If all else fails though, McGee is still absolutely right; this is indeed going to be quite a show.
