More than a year after his untimely death and former Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant continues to receive tributes from NBA players.

While the NBA itself has also showered Bryant with honors, such as renaming the All-Star Game MVP award after him, there are those who want the league to pay tribute to him by changing their logo to that of the five-time champion.

Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving has been vocal about wanting the NBA logo to be changed from another former Laker in Jerry West to Bryant. Irving’s suggestion gained support from Bryant’s wife Vanessa and now finds another supporter in Lakers team owner and president Jeanie Buss, who also supported the idea on social media.

Aside from agreeing to the idea of having the Black Mamba on the league’s logo, Buss added that Bryant set a standard during his 20-year career that he spent entirely with the Lakers, and that players agree to the idea as well.

It is understandable that Buss will also like the idea of putting Kobe Bryant on the NBA logo, as she and her father Jerry were close to the two-time Finals MVP since he joined the team in 1996. As she said, the potential move is also backed by several players, many of whom grew up watching and admiring Bryant and his legendary work ethic.

Even West, the man whose silhouette is in the league’s logo, has supported the idea of having Bryant on the logo. The ball, however, will ultimately rest in the hands of the league office and commissioner Adam Silver on whether this move will actually be done or not.
