Los Angeles Lakers team president Jeanie Buss is all-in on the movement to change the name of the Washington Redskins.

According to the 58-year-old executive, altering the name of the team is by no means a sign of disrespect towards the team's history and heritage:

The Lakers head honcho makes a fair point here, and she certainly isn't alone on this boat. As described in the tweet above, a powerful group of individuals have gotten the ball rolling on forcing Washington's hand to abandon the Redskins name.

“Redskin” is a colloquial term for Native American Indians, and at this day and age, many are arguing that the fact that Washington continues to use it as their nickname is offensive to this particular culture.

For their part, Washington has acknowledged the issue at hand, and have come out to say that they will undergo a “thorough” review on their current moniker. Surely, the pressure mounted on them from multiple angles should be enough for the organization to budge. After all, it's not the first time a professional sports team is going to be changing its name. This is anything but unprecedented. What better reason to change your team's name than for a good cause.

The NFL has shown support on the fight against systemic racism, and to some extent, the Redskins name itself is a blatant slap in the face against this movement. It may be unheard of, but at this point, it isn't going to be a complete shock if the league steps in and adds further pressure on Washington.
