JR Smith and the Denver Nuggets faced Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 Western Conference Finals.

During a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Smith was asked what his favorite Bryant memory was. JR talked about a moment he and his nephew had with the Lakers legend after one of the games was over in Denver:

This is your typical Kobe Bryant story. The Lakers icon was always trying to play games with his opponents, even if it was off the court.

Kobe and the Lakers wound up beating Smith and the Nuggets in six games in the 2009 Western Conference Finals. Bryant eventually led the Lakers to the 2009 title over Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic in five games.

Bryant finished his Lakers career with averages of 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He’s universally recognized as the second-best shooting guard in NBA history behind only Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

Kobe won five championships with the Lakers. He also captured two Finals MVPs and one regular-season MVP. Bryant was named a first-ballot Hall of Famer for the class of 2020. Kobe once said he would like Jordan or Phil Jackson to present him at the Hall of Fame.

It's a shame we won't get to hear Bryant's Hall of Fame speech, but he will certainly be with us in spirits.
