The Los Angeles Lakers desperately need help with their three-point shooting and have tapped one of the league's known sharpshooters in JR Smith to fill their need.

Shams Charania was one of the first to break the news about the Purple and Gold reaching out to Smith for a possible contract with the Lakers. He's one of the better free-agent shooters available, and having him would definitely help them on offense.

Smith is definitely a great choice to add to the Lakers. He's a career 37% shooter from three-point land, and he still has the ability to thrive in an NBA team. He also has prior experience of working with LeBron James during his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also has the personality to match the already big personas that make up Los Angeles' favorite basketball team.

His shooting should somewhat help the Lakers improve on their three-point shooting. They're currently 16th in the league when it comes to three-point percentage at 35.8%, and that's far from satisfactory for a team that has two of the biggest players that demand double teams in James and Anthony Davis.

His possible inclusion in the team should also help improve the Lakers' spacing. Since they don't have a lot of good shooters outside Danny Green, having Smith to the roster should help with the space both James and Davis can operate on.

Of course, nothing's set in stone until the Lakers actually pull the trigger on Smith. It's in the Lakers' best interest to seriously consider adding Smith to the roster and boost their chances of winning the Larry O'Brien trophy.
