The filmmakers of the much-anticipated docuseries “The Last Dance” finished a scene with Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in mid-January, roughly a week before Bryant’s tragic death in the hills of Calabasas.

Director Jason Hehir pointed to one particular scene in which Bryant declared Michael Jordan, the star he'd grown so keen on emulating throughout his career, was like his big brother.

Jordan, who spoke at Bryant's public memorial, called the late Lakers star his “little brother” — a perfect resonance of these two legends of the sport once again finding themselves in total synchronicity.

“To hear Kobe in that scene say he’s (Michael) like my big brother and then to have Michael give that famous speech that he gave at Kobe’s memorial service, saying, ‘Rest in peace, little brother,’ it just shows you how genuine that relationship was between the two of them,” Hehir told The Athletic. “That scene is so much more poignant now and it was such a cool scene to begin with.”

“The Last Dance” is a 10-hour docuseries that many have been eagerly waiting to watch during this quarantine period. Many will be looking to see one of the last few words the Lakers icon uttered in front of a camera when he deems his longtime idol as a brotherly figure.

Bryant and Jordan's relationship was as rivals first, but they grew as friends over the years. The two maniacally competitive shooting guards eventually bonded over their love for the sport and their love for winning — a bond that becomes very evident in the series.
