The third chapter of the “Battle of LA” managed to fit the billing, as the Los Angeles Lakers secured their first win over the Los Angeles Clippers. It seems forward Kyle Kuzma is well aware of all the intrigue surrounding this potential Western Conference matchup.

Both the Lakers and Clippers have been able to follow through on the hope they generated during the offseason by establishing themselves as the clear-cut best teams in the West. Kuzma acknowledged that the league as a whole has plenty of money riding on their eventual meeting in the WCF, via Los Angeles Times:

“It’s going to happen. That’s how the league’s going to make money. It’s going to happen,” Kuzma shared.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Kuzma's comments. The newfound rivalry in Los Angeles has served as one of the biggest storylines throughout the 2019-20 NBA season, and their contentious matchups have only added fuel to the fire. With all the noise surrounding the declining TV ratings, a high-stakes showdown between the Lakers and Clippers at Staples Center could be just what they need to dispel this notion.

Kuzma's comments are also indicative of how the teams are treating this matchup. The Clippers managed to gain the upper hand during their first two meetings of the season. However, the Lakers were able to make quite a statement by handing them their first loss with a roster that is fully healthy.

Although the NBA front office may see Kyle Kuzma's words as taboo, there is no question that the consensus is more anxious for this possible Western Conference Finals matchup than ever.
