Kyle Kuzma not worried after hurting his ankle
Kyle Kuzma battled through an ankle injury in the first half to lead his Los Angeles Lakers to a 112-103 win over the Denver Nuggets, with team pride on the line after two incidents of showboating by guard Jamal Murray.
The Lakers rallied in the fourth quarter, gaining a 14-point advantage and putting the game out of reach for the Nuggets, as Kuzma’s 26 points and 13 rebounds helped lead the charge.
The rookie spoke about the state of his injury following the game.
“It kind of hurts now, but I just got X-rays so I’m good. Just wake up tomorrow, see how it feels, run around,” said Kuzma, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.
Kuzma’s effort was lauded all around, which also includes frontcourt mate Julius Randle, who posted a near-replica of his stat line with 26-and-13 of his own.
“Kuz was great. I don’t know what he had in the first half, but in the second half he hit a lot of shots,” said Randle. “He made a lot of plays for us and he was really good.”
The rookie continues to impress after a slumping month of February where he hit 37.9 percent of his shots from the field.
Kuzma is averaging 16 points and 8.7 rebounds while hitting a blistering 43.6 percent of his 3-point attempts in March — numbers that have helped the Lakers win eight of their last 10 games, as they continue to roll with a great groove.
The 22-year-old will have to have his ankle re-examined today, but barring any setbacks should be good to go for tonight’s tilt against the Golden State Warriors.
