Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma says Kobe Bryant used to tell him if he's not getting talked about in trade talks, he was doing something wrong.

The New York Knicks have had exploratory conversations with the Lakers on Kuzma, who has seemingly been in trade rumors for over a year now:

This season marks the first time Kuzma is playing on a Lakers team with championship aspirations. The talented forward is learning what it takes to contribute to winning besides scoring.

The Lakers are 38-11 on the season in their first year with the Anthony DavisLeBron James pairing. Kuzma is averaging 13.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 40 games this season. He’s shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 33.7 percent from beyond the arc and 74.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Kuzma’s status with the Lakers has been in question ever since his trainer called out LeBron, but it sounds like those rumors were overblown.

The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 6. It’s unknown if the Lakers are going to make a trade to bolster their roster. They’ve been linked to Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose, New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris and Memphis Grizzlies forward Andre Iguodala, who hasn’t played a single game all season. Darren Collison is also on their radar if he indeed comes out of retirement.

Kuzma was the only youngster from last year’s team to survive the Davis trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, as Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram were sent to New Orleans.

Now, we have to see if Kuzma will survive the 2020 trade deadline.
