After LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers over the summer, critics didn't immediately run to the conclusion that the purple and gold have turned into championship contenders. They believe that the Lakers still lack a few more pieces to the puzzle. Forward and rising star Kyle Kuzma has heard the whispers. And he isn't too pleased with them.

Speaking with ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, Kuzma expressed his excitement at playing alongside James and the new additions.

“We are both definitely excited about the roster and the pieces that we have,” said Kuzma. “And we think that a lot of people are underestimating us. It is definitely going to be fun playing with all these new guys.

Yet despite this fact and given that the young core of the Lakers performed relatively well last season, critics don't believe that they can compete with the best. Not just yet. Some say that the Lakers need more key additions since their current roster is too young and inexperienced. And Kuzma can't seem to find the logic to their critics' statements.

“I don’t know why people kind of just rule us out because we are young,” the 23-year-old continued. “We are hungry. We are competitive. Anybody that watched us play last year, we were in a lot of games. Having one of the greatest players of all time is going to raise what we do, raise our level of focus and the team to a higher level. I don’t really see why [there is a need to be] so patient.”
