Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma is looking to give back to his hometown of Flint, Michigan as citizens face certain needs due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bill Oram of The Athletic reported the Lakers backup is partnering with the local YMCA on a six-week program that will provide dinner and a snack each an every night starting on March 23. The program is expected to provide over 3,300 total meals to those in need.

Athletes around the world have been doing what they can to utilize their influence and resources to help those who are less well off.

Players like Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love and New Orleans Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson are helping to pay for some of the salaries of arena workers and staff on team payroll. Houston Astros center fielder George Springer is doing the same, while teammate Alex Bregman is donating 1,000 food kits.

Houston Texans defensive tackle J.J. Watt and his wife, Chicago Red Stars forward Kealia Ohai, pledged over $350,000 dollars to the Houston Food Bank, a donation expected to provide over one million meals.

Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is donating $125,000 dollars to multiple causes and Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward will be donating $400,000 to a number of local and national causes.

Kuzma is also doing his part. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently called on the state's National Guard to help public health officials curb the spread and distribute “personal protective gear.”

But plenty of citizens will have no means or access to food in the wake of the pandemic, which is why Kuzma is helping to do what he can.
