After getting drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the 27th pick then immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, Kyle Kuzma had a solid rookie season where he earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors on the strength of 16.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the regular season. His relatively low draft selection and stellar play have led to him being widely considered as the steal of the 2017 NBA draft.

In early April of 2018, Slam Magazine posted a picture of the young rookie wearing a 1990s Laker jersey of Nick Van Exel on Twitter. This then garnered the attention of current Laker LeBron James as he quickly shared the photo posted by Slam Magazine and gave praise to the young rookie.

Up to this date, the Showtime Lakers, like the 1990s Lakers, still haven't been forgotten. This is partly due to their legendary players such as Earvin “Magic” Johnson, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, formerly known as Lew Alcindor which many Lakers fans and NBA fans in general admire. Also, their iconic jerseys are still being worn by many Lakers fans today.

Just recently, the Silver Screen & Roll posted a photo of what Kyle Kuzma would look like in a Showtime jersey on Twitter. Shortly after, Kyle Kuzma himself responded to the photo by saying that they would be cool jerseys to wear on the court.

The last time the Lakers wore the Showtime jerseys was in the 2016-17 season. The Lakers did not wear the Showtime jerseys in the 2017-18 season and instead wore an older kind of Laker jerseys, the Minneapolis jerseys. It would be interesting for Lakers fans to see the Showtime jerseys resurface and be worn by the Lakers in the 2018-19 season, most especially Kuzma.
