The Los Angeles Lakers will be parading a new-look lineup in the 2021-22 NBA season after injecting the roster with fresh faces. Among the first challenges for the team is to sort out the composition of its starting unit, though it appears that they have figured that out while also considering what exactly they are supposed to do with Anthony Davis, who is capable of playing both positions in the frontcourt.

Davis, however, hasn't always been trotted out as a center either with the Lakers or back when he was still with the New Orleans Pelicans. That could change, with the arrival of Russell Westbrook and DeAndre Jordan to the team, according to sources of The Athletic,

Since Davis arrived from New Orleans two years ago, the Lakers’ best lineups have featured him at center. With Westbrook aboard, sources said Davis has emerged as the expected starting center, clearing the way for a likely starting five of him, Westbrook, Ellington, Ariza and James, according to sources. Third-year guard Talen Horton-Tucker, a rising, young talent for the Lakers, is also expected to compete in camp for a possible starting role.

Last season, Davis only played center approximately just 10 percent of the time, with Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, and Andre Drummond mostly assuming that role.

There is no finality with this plan, but the meetings Lakers players have had thus far, it seems that playing Davis as a center for the majority of his time on the floor is one that the team sees would benefit it in the long run.
