Los Angeles Lakers legend Elgin Baylor will be immortalized through a work of art in form of a statue to be displayed outside STAPLES Center.

As announced by the Lakers, Baylor's statue will be revealed on Friday, April 6 at 5:30 PT. Below is the full announcement:

The Lakers announced early this year that Baylor was set to receive a statue. On the announcement, Baylor himself commented, via the Southern California News Group, as reported by Bill Oram:

“It’s something people have been talking to me about for some time “I don’t know how I’m going to react or anything once I see it because nothing like that has ever happened before. But I’m sure that I will enjoy it.”

Baylor spent his whole 14-year NBA career with the Lakers franchise, moving with the team from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960. His career averages are 27.4 points a game, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. While he did not win a championship when he was a player, he was still instrumental in establishing the Lakers as one of the best franchises in the NBA.

After retiring, Baylor went on to coach the New Orleans Jazz (now the Utah Jazz). He was eventually offered to serve as VP of Basketball Operations for the L.A. Clippers in 1986. In 2006, he won the NBA Executive of the Year award.

Baylor's statue was crafted by renowned artists Julie Rotblatt Amrany and Omri Amrany. It is the latest statue to be erected by the Lakers franchise. It will join other Laker greats Jerry West, Earvin “Magic” Johnson,  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal.
