The Los Angeles Lakers have officially parted ways with head coach Frank Vogel.

After a forgettable season where the team missed the playoffs, the 2020 NBA champ has been relieved of his duties. Via Woj:

Following Sunday's season finale against the Nuggets, reports surfaced that LA was already planning to let Vogel go. He was even asked about it after the contest and revealed he “didn't know sh*t”. The Lakers finally announced it on Monday, with Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse emerging as a potential replacement for Vogel, who should have no problem finding a job elsewhere this offseason.

The Lakers went a putrid 33-49 in 2021-22, despite signing a boatload of new additions last summer to strengthen their squad. Between the inconsistencies of Russell Westbrook and injuries to several players, most notably Anthony Davis, absolutely nothing went to plan. LA was in the mix for the play-in but finished the year 2-8, losing eight in a row before back-to-back victories in games 81 and 82.

It really felt like Vogel had no control over the Lakers roster. Nevertheless, he will always be remembered as the coach who led them to an NBA title in the Orlando Bubble. It will be interesting to see where he ends up next. As previously mentioned, LA wants Nurse, but the Raptors boss has two years left on his deal and Toronto would need to grant permission for the Lakers to talk to him.
