The Los Angeles Lakers have inquired about a number of potential veteran backup point guards and one of them is Orlando Magic guard DJ Augustin, according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.

The Lakers need another playmaker on the roster and everybody around the NBA knows it:

The Lakers have inquired about a number of potential veteran backup point guards and one potential target could come onto the trade market in the coming weeks: Orlando guard D.J. Augustin. The Lakers can’t trade a second-round pick until 2023, but the team does have rookie Talen Horton-Tucker, originally drafted by Orlando before he was traded to the Lakers, on hand.

The Lakers are 28-7 on the season after defeating the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. They have the best record in the Western Conference and won four games in a row.

Augustin has appeared in 35 games for the Magic this season. He's averaging 10.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 39.4 percent from the field, 33.9 percent from beyond the arc and 90.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Augustin would be an upgrade over Rajon Rondo, who doesn't space the floor for the Lakers since he's not a reliable perimeter shooter. Augustin is making $7,250,000 this season, the final year of his contract.
