Much like every other team in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers have come out with their own official statement addressing the recent death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police.

In a message posted by the team on its official Twitter account, the organization stood as one with the people who are demanding justice for Floyd's death:

“We condemn racism, bigotry, violence and prejudice in all its forms. Everyone has the right to live free from fear and to be treated with dignity and respect. We hear the pain of our Black community and we will not stay silent.”

Lakers superstar LeBron James himself came out with his own statement about Floyd's death. LeBron pointed out how NFL star Colin Kaepernick's infamous act of taking a knee is so eerily and ironically similar to how the police officer put his knee on Floyd's neck.

Several NBA players took to the streets on Saturday to join the protests against social injustice, including Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris, Boston Celtics youngster Jaylen Brown, Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon, and New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr.

It is clear that remaining silent and neutral at this point in time is no longer an option. As what the Lakers' statement points out here, their organization will refuse to keep mum about the injustices that have perpetually mired the nation, particularly that of racism. Other teams like the Golden State Warriors have released similar statements, and hopefully more follow suit.
