The Los Angeles Lakers formally announced their 2022 NBA Summer League roster. Rising sophomore Austin Reaves will not participate.

The absence of 24-year-old Reaves, coming off an impressive rookie campaign, is notable but not particularly shocking, considering he's a locked-in rotation piece for 2022-23. Here's what Reaves told Lakers Nation in May regarding Summer League:

“I’m not 100% sure yet … I feel like I’ve always got something to prove. So, if I go and play, I’m going to play it like I play every other game. But last year, Summer League was fun. It gave me a perspective of really just the physicality of the game, the speed of the game. Last year, that helped a lot moving into my rookie year. Like I said, if I go back and play this year – which is possible – I’m going to play it like every other game. Like it’s just a regular season game, just try to do the right things on the basketball court.”

Beyond Reaves, the Lakers' Summer League roster features No. 35 overall pick Max Christie, plus a handful of South Bay contributors and post-Draft signees. Mac McClung won the G-League Rookie of the Year award last season, while Mason Jones finished third in MVP voting. Jay Huff spent much of 2021-22 on a two-way contract. Paris Bass and Nate Pierre-Louis spent the season in South Bay, too.

The Summer League team held its first official practice on Tuesday at the Lakers practice facility.

Among the undrafted free agents participating are two sons of NBA legends: Shareef O'Neal and Scotty Pippen Jr.

The Summer League Lakers will face the Miami Heat (July 2), Golden State Warriors (July 3), and Phoenix Suns (July 5) in the California Classic at the Chase Center. They'll then head to Las Vegas, beginning with another matchup with Phoenix on July 8. They'll take on the Charlotte Hornets (July 10), Los Angeles Clippers (July 12), and New Orleans Pelicans (July 15).

The Summer League championship is slated for July 17.
