Michael Cooper, who won five titles with the Los Angeles Lakers during his playing career, thinks the Purple and Gold are “the team to beat” in 2019-20.
The Lakers have two of the top-five players in the NBA in LeBron James and Anthony Davis. LA did a great job of filling out the roster after losing out on Kawhi Leonard. The Lakers signed Danny Green, DeMarcus Cousins, Avery Bradley, Jared Dudley and Quinn Cook. The LakeShow also re-signed Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Michael Cooper says Frank Vogel is a “great coach” and that the Lakers should be in good shape to win it all if everyone is on the same page.
“The Lakers are doing a good job,” Cooper told Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype. “They made a lot of drastic moves, which I think is good, but all of that doesn’t matter if they don’t have chemistry. They need their guys to be on the same page. The thing I love about the people they got, they seem like they’re fine being complementary players. It doesn’t seem like they all need to be the star. When that happens and everyone wants to be the star, it’s not going to work. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
“I think they got a great coach in Frank Vogel. I think he’ll come in and do a good job of getting everybody on the same page. I still think the Lakers are going to be the team to beat. It’s going to be fun to see the Lakers and Clippers face off. Staples Center will be happy because they’re going to have a whole lot of sold-out games every night!”
The Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors are the other contenders in the Western Conference. The Clippers have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George anchoring their roster.
2019-20 is going to be a fun NBA season. Laker fans are hoping Anthony Davis and LeBron James can deliver banner No. 17.
