LeBron James seems to want to pass the torch for the first time in his NBA career after telling ownership he wants the newly-acquired Anthony Davis to be the focal point from here on out.

Davis, who has been the go-to player during his entire career with the New Orleans Pelicans is ready for the challenge, but is still honored to have his new partner-in-crime laud him as such a pivotal piece to the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I’ve kind of been a focal-point player my whole career, especially in New Orleans. But first off, to have a guy like LeBron, someone of his caliber, go tell management and ownership and the coaches that he wants me to be the focal point is an honor,” Davis told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “I know what comes with that, and that’s a lot of heavy lifting. I want to be able to do that. I think I have the capabilities of doing that. And obviously with the team’s support, it’s going to be a lot easier on me. We have a great team.”

This is surely a turning of the guard for James, who was still was the centerpiece of a Cleveland Cavaliers team that boasted a gifted scorer in point guard Kyrie Irving, who has since changed teams twice.

Irving hoped to be the heir of James' reign for three years in Cleveland, but ultimately never managed to outshine The King.

Now James seems plenty willing to hand the keys to Davis, while still remaining a very important part of the Lakers equation moving forward, now with championship expectations fully afloat.
