Two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers Lamar Odom is taking the next step in his post-basketball career. According to reports, Odom has decided to take his talents to the four corners of the ring — as an amateur boxer.

This report comes via TMZ Sports:

TMZ Sportshas learned that the 41-year-old ex-NBA star has inked a deal with Celebrity Boxing … and will step into the ring on June 12 at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

TMZ also reports that Odom's opponent is yet to be named, but that the people behind the promotion are seeking a big-name celebrity to face off against Odom.

Lamar Odom now has six months to prepare himself for what should be a highly-anticipated boxing match. The 6-foot-10 forward was an outstanding basketball player in his heyday, but needless to say, basketball and boxing are two very different sports. Odom will need to put in a lot of work if he's serious about a potential boxing career.

The last time a basketball player took to the ring, it did not end too well for him. A couple of months back, former NBA dunk contest champion Nate Robinson faced off against YouTube sensation Jake Paul. Robinson ended up with his face on the canvass in what turned out to be an embarrassing knockout loss.

That's the last thing Lamar Odom wants to happen, as he looks to save the reputation of ex-NBA players in the world of amateur boxing. Come to think of it, a Lamar Odom-Jake Paul bout would draw a lot of attention, wouldn't it?
