The first year of the LeBron James era with the Los Angeles Lakers was a disaster.

The Lakers are going to miss the playoffs. The roster Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka constructed around James wasn't good, as there wasn't enough shooting on the team.

Despite the putrid season, Lakers guard Lance Stephenson and center JaVale McGee would like to see the current roster get another shot next season.

“Man, I don’t know,” Stephenson said, via Bill Oram of The Athletic. “But I feel like this team right here, healthy, we had a shot. We would have had a shot, so why not give us another shot? … This team could do it. I just think we need more time together.”

“I think it’s true, but I think it’s probably not what’s going to happen,” McGee said. “It’s the NBA, so people don’t take, ‘Oh, they got injured, that’s probably why.’ No. They take it as, ‘It didn’t work.’ So I doubt they bring back the exact same group, but anything’s possible.

“The injuries we’ve had this year. … That’s crazy. It’s nothing I’ve seen to where how many people are getting injured. Which forces us to play different lineups and play totally different every other month.”

The Lakers were in the fourth spot in the Western Conference standings after they defeated the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day.

That's the same day LeBron went down with the groin injury. James missed 17 games, the Lakers went 6-11, and the season was pretty much lost.

Both Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee signed one-year deals with Los Angeles last summer.
