When LeBron James recently opened his I Promise School in his native of Akron, Ohio, his praises were being sung throughout the NBA — and rightfully so. However, LaVar Ball may have taken a bit of a different approach.

Speaking to The Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder Podcast, Ball did still commend James for his charitable work, albeit seemingly with a hint of resentment.

“That's something good to do on the fact he has so much money. He came up a different way, so he was like, ‘I'm going to give back to somebody,'” Ball noted. “What else can you do when you have that many millions of dollars? You have to spread it out. You can't die with it, so you might as well create some things to help others.”

Don't get us wrong here; we're not trying to misconstrue Ball's statement. On the surface, he does say that LeBron did do “something good,” but he just did not stop there. The words that followed seem to imply that given the amount of money LeBron has made in his lifetime, giving back is more of an obligation as opposed to a choice.

Nevertheless, what is clear is that everyone, including Ball, appreciates what LeBron has done for the underprivileged youth of his home town. It's just LaVar Ball being LaVar Ball here. After all, it would be unlike him not to include such a drastically exaggerated concept — such as dying with your money — in a statement.
