Carmelo Anthony made history on Sunday night after he surpassed Moses Malone for the ninth spot in the NBA's all-time scoring list. It was an undeniably momentous occasion for the 10-time All-Star. For Los Angeles Lakers teammates LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the moment presented itself as an opportunity to sound off on Melo's haters.

LeBron had nothing but praise for Anthony as he reminded everyone about how the league pretty much turned their back on his Lakers teammate a couple of years ago:

“He’s been doing it for quite a while, and it’s just beautiful to continue to see, especially when, you know, they gave up on him,” James said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Prior to finding his form with the Portland Trail Blazers this past two years, Anthony went through a rough patch in his career. The Lakers vet saw himself traded and bought out a number of times before ending up having to sit out a huge chunk of the regular season without a team.

At this point, it's already hard to imagine how and why so many people doubted Melo. This is exactly what Lakers teammate Anthony Davis had in mind:

“A couple of years ago, nobody wanted him,” Davis said. “He was counted out. Doubted. And he stayed the course. Stayed a professional and got a shot in Portland. Made a name for himself again. And he's here now and doing the same thing, picking up where he left off. It's an honor to have him on our team, an honor to play beside him.”

Not only did Anthony achieve a historic scoring feat on Sunday, but his 28-point explosion also helped the Lakers overcome Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies to mark LA's first win of the season. Melo and Co. are now hoping that this sparks the start of a new era in Hollywood.
