On the very first day of the new NBA season, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James immediately reached another impressive milestone.

LeBron had a huge game in their opening assignment against the visiting Golden State Warriors, finishing with numbers of 34 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Unfortunately, his efforts fell short against Stephen Curry and company, who climbed back to hack out a 121-114 victory at Staples Center.

But if it's any consolation, LeBron set another record after passing Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki for 12th place for most three-pointers made in NBA history. The King did it when he splashed his fourth three-pointer against the Warriors (via NBA).

He added another one to end the game with five long range bombs and increase his total to 1,979.

It's a pretty laudable achievement, considering LeBron entered the NBA with a rickety outside shot. In his rookie year, he only made 29 percent of his three-pointers. Through the years, he learned to develop his stroke, even learning the ropes from some of the best shooters in NBA history in former teammates Ray Allen and Kyle Korver.

Last season, LeBron shot 36.5 percent of his three-pointers, the fourth highest mark in his illustrious career. With the Lakers adding a handful of snipers this season, one would think LBJ would get fewer looks from deep. But against the Warriors, he proved that won't be the case.

It probably won't take long until LeBron James passes former Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd for 11th place on the elite list.
