By now, you know Carmelo Anthony is a free agent, and by now, you know that Anthony and LeBron James are really good friends. You also know by now that if the Los Angeles Lakers superstar wants someone on his team, chances are, his respective front office will go out and get that guy.

So, will LeBron James put in the good word to Magic Johnson and the rest of the Lakers front office for Carmelo Anthony?

As usual, LeBron is being cryptic about the situation:

That really doesn't tell us anything at all. If there is an opportunity, then we'll see.

Well played, LeBron.

Now, it is entirely possible that James is just playing coy with the media because he does not want to put Magic on the spot. Unlike his situation in Cleveland, LeBron James has developed a good relationship with the Lakers front office, so perhaps he does not want to damage it by being forceful in his answer.

On the other hand, we know that James is a master of manipulating the media, so this could just be LeBron being LeBron.

Looking at it from an objective point of view, though, would Carmelo Anthony help the Lakers?

He is a shell of the player he once was, and even the player he once was isn't a great fit in this league. All Carmelo can really do is score and he doesn't even do that all that well anymore. On a Los Angeles team that already has scorers like James, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram, where would Anthony fit?

Take into consideration the fact that Ingram has struggled to play with LeBron, and you realize that throwing Anthony into the mix might only further complicate things.
