Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is now venturing into the vast world of children's story books. It was recently announced that LeBron's first book entitled “I Promise” is set for publication this August.

LeBron James, I Promise

As the name implies, the book will center around LeBron's I PROMISE program. Last year, the three-time NBA champ opened the I Promise School, which is also part of this wonderful program propagated by the LeBron James Family Foundation.

The Lakers superstar recently opened up about what he hopes to achieve with his new book.

“Books have the ability to teach, inspire, and bring people together,” James said in a news release, via Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today. “That’s why these books, and the opportunity to get children and parents reading together, mean so much to me.

“Most importantly, we wanted to make sure these stories are ones that every single kid can see themselves in. ‘I PROMISE’ is powerful in that way, and I can’t wait for people to read it.”

Growing up, James was an avid reader himself. The 35-year-old also shared the type of impact books had on him as a youngster, and how important he deems them to be as part of his development.

“I used to be like one of the only kids in school who used to read newspapers,” the Lakers star said. “I would read ‘Sports Illustrated’ all the way through. I would read all the articles. I wouldn’t just look at the photos. And I would rent out books, too, at the library in downtown Akron. I would read basketball encyclopedia books, just trying to learn the history.”

This is just the latest of James' many business ventures, but it is one that he obviously holds close to his heart.
